Abstract: The works to be carried out in 2022 will focus only on the haggs and gullies on the slopes of Carnedd y Filiast to the north and west of the site. There are some significant haggs leading north along the ridge and fence line from Carnedd y Filiast, some of which are 2-3m tall. Several haggs have begun to ‘self-heal-, but many are still eroding. These haggs lead to a series of small but steep gullies at the north of the site, which feed the top of the stream catchment leading to Llyn Hesgyn. While work on steeper slopes is unlikely to help re-wet the peat (and may impact water flow further down), some blocks and baffles in the tops of these gullies may help protect the re-profiled haggs. To the west of Carnedd y Filiast are the upper catchments of two small stream systems. Again, some of these haggs have begun to ‘self-heal-, but many haggs are still eroding and of a significant size. These two areas will benefit from hagg re-profiling, blocking small gullies and runnels, and slowing the water flow in large gullies by building low dams or baffles.
