- ClimateXChange wishes to commission research on the use of ‘trusted messengers- to inform the development and implementation of the Scottish Government-s Heat In Buildings Public Engagement Strategy (HiBs PES), to be published early 2023. As such, importance will beplaced on accessibility to early research insights from this project as it develops, to help informparallel development of the strategy.Buildings account for around a fifth of Scotland-s greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, only asmall minority of households in Scotland have a zero direct emissions heating system, such asa heat pump. To meet Scotland-s net zero target, by 2045, almost all homes and buildings mustbe using a zero direct emissions heating system.The Heat in Buildings Strategy (October 2021) sets out how the Scottish Government willreduce greenhouse gas emissions from Scotland-s homes, and achieve warmer, greener andmore energy efficient heating in Scotland-s buildings in the years to 2045 with commitment to decarbonise the heating of at least 1 million homes by 2030. Delivering these ambitions will only be possible with the active participation of building owners and occupiersacross Scotland.
