Abstract: In 2022 there were 8752 deaths registered in the area. Of these, 3255 cases (37%) were reported to the Coroner. This figure rose to 9105 deaths registered in the area in 2022. Of these, 3729 (41%) were reported to the Coroner. Manchester West has an average post-mortem rate of 43% and there were 1632 post-mortems carried out in 2022. CTPM will become the first line of intervention and all deaths that would otherwise have been sent for PME will be subject to a CTPM scan to help establish the cause of death. Approximately 10% of these will require a PME regardless of the outcome of the CTPM and of the remaining 90%, a successful CTPM outcome will be expected in a minimum of 75% of cases.
