- North Northamptonshire Council is seeking to commission general practices through Primary Care Networks (PCN) for contraception services. This includes General Practitioners (GPs), nurse practitioners, and specialist family planning nurses. They will provide long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) services; fitting and removal.
North Northamptonshire Council is commissioning and funding the Provider to offer long-acting reversible methods of contraception, as described in the specification attached. This service include:
• Component A: Subdermal contraceptive implants (SDI)
• Component B: Intrauterine devices/systems (IUD/IUS)
• General requirements applicable to all services detailed in the specification
Component A: Subdermal Contraceptive Implants (SDI)
The provider must fit, monitor, check, and remove subdermal contraceptive implants in accordance with current clinical guidelines and their instructions for use. Only contraceptive implants licensed for use in the UK are to be used.
The provider must ensure that patients receive information and advice on all available contraceptive methods, supporting them in selecting the most appropriate method for their individual needs, in accordance with NICE Clinical Guideline CG30.
In addition, the clinician must:
1. Take a sexual history in order to assess the appropriateness of fitting an implant.
