Kent County Council (KCC) has a statutory duty as a Waste Disposal Authority (WDA) for the processing/disposal of Kent-s household waste, which include the disposal of wood waste deposited by members of the public at Kent-s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

The Kent County Council (KCC) wishes to engage with suppliers regarding capacity in the market to provide future Wood Waste Disposal Services. KCC-s existing contract for these services is due to expire on 14th November 2026.

The total tonnage of wood waste processed for the 24/25 financial period was in the region of 25,000 tonnes.

Minimum Requirements
The supplier will be required to have in place:
• A waste processing facility with appropriate permitting and planning permissions.
• A facility which can manage the processing of all wood waste.
• An appropriate method of weighing-in materials (preferably an electronic weighbridge) to provide the council with the appropriate management information (including weigh-loader transaction listings); and
• robust service contingency plans to ensure continuity of services in the event of plant failure, etc.
