- The six trusts are working collectively to improve and transform the aseptic services in the region by providing a centralised hub supported by existing spokes at each of the trusts. This model will deliver the required capacity and capability to develop an NHS-leading aseptic service, resilient to future demand and pressures.
The transformation aims to:
• Produce sterile injectable medicines including:
o Ready to Administer (RtA) injectable medicines, eg antibiotics
o Monoclonal antibodies
o Chemotherapy
• Delivery service efficiencies
• Enhance patient safety, patient care and the patient experience
• Release nursing time to care
The works will consist of the construction of a modular Aseptic Production Unit (APU) / Cleanroom Suite at the core of the premises with support facilities that will include offices, laboratories and warehousing. The envelop of the building will include new windows to office areas, louvres to support mechanical plant and door openings to facilitate activities and provide safe and compliant fire routes. The aseptic clean room suites will be provided with Air Handling Units. Heating and cooling plant will require an outdoor enclosure and ventilation plant will be located within a single ventilation plantroom inside the building.
