Abstract: Barnsley College is committed to the delivery of a state-of-the art Institute of Technology at the Church Street Campus (University Centre) to enhance the delivery of Higher Education technical qualifications. The building opened in 1932 as the Barnsley Mining and Technical College and presents an ongoing story that it will be developed into a modern, technology-rich Institute of Technology (IoT). The College has engaged with a design team to develop a RIBA Stage 4 (design and build) package including drawings and specifications.The College is part of an IoT collaboration in South Yorkshire, the SYIoT. An Institute of Technology (IoT) is a new type of institution, with a prestigious and distinct identity, that specialises in delivering higher level technical skills, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) subjects at scale.
