Agriculture Bas Carbone For Dairy Farms (Abcd) - Research And Knowledge Transfer
The ABCD project is a joint project between Cornwall Council and Finistere Council which is funded by the EU-s Interreg Channel Programme. The project will focus primarily on the following research objectives:- 1) Measuring the carbon emissions of the on-farm milk production systems in Brittany and Cornwall 2) Measuring the impact of different feeding and management regimes in reducing these emissions 3) Comparing and contrasting the results of research undertaken in Brittany and Cornwall to identify and communicate any differences to the dairy sector 4) Measuring and reporting the additional carbon savings that can be derived from the capture of fugitive methane emissions on Cornwall Council Farms (UK only element of the project) This project will deliver mirrored research undertaken at the Trevarez research centre in Finistere and a UK based dairy research facility that will be identified via an open procurement process. The focus of the research will be to identify methods to reduce the methane emissions of dairy cattle, mainly through different feeding regimes, as the feeding regimes used in France are different in many ways to the average Cornish systems.
